Barton Design System

Study & CLEP Patterns

Study systems start from the exam or source architecture, then map pages, topics, question groups and gaps onto the CTB. The learning spine comes first; the interface makes it inspectable.

Spine rules

Non-negotiable

  • Every topic, question group, claim and readiness badge cites its source or is a gap.
  • Chronology, hierarchy and evidence stay visible; the spine is not flattened for looks.
  • Progress and readiness states appear only when backed by coverage checks or deterministic source mapping.
  • Gaps are marked honestly: missing source, weak mapping, untested recall, no practice items, no review loop.

Study queue and review loop

derived, never guessed

Queue items derive from coverage + review state; a gap item cannot be studied, only sourced

Backed by attempts only

No attempt history

Weakness requires recorded attempts. Without them this stays empty rather than showing a guessed score.

Two of four topics have no source packet, so an exam-readiness percentage would be invented.
